Thinking of Joining a Buying Group?

A1 Motor Stores says factors and retailers who want to retain their independence, but strengthen their business and increase their profit margins, should consider becoming a member of the group. PMF finds out why…

In the face of the current tough economic conditions, A1 Motor Stores claims the feeling in the trade is that independents need to be part of a trading alliance in order to survive. As an organisation that is determined to grow despite these prevailing difficulties, A1 says it is well-placed to help them transform their business and compete with the giants of the industry.

A1 states that there are many reasons why an independent should join the group. In addition to improved buying terms and rebates there is a full business support package including HR support, legal support and discounted insurance packages. Members also benefit from an in-house marketing suite, which has the ability to produce both digital and traditional print campaigns putting together high quality, bespoke marketing campaigns to members’ specification.

The group holds regular members meeting in order to understand the needs of its membership. These meetings also give members the opportunity to share ideas for their mutual benefit. Being a member’s group means everyone has a voice, channeled through an elected board of seven directors. Annual elections take place at the AGM where two director positions are contended – this gives every member the opportunity to be elected to the board.

With access to exclusive brands Technopart, Technolube and Mota1, the full business support package, annual Trade Show & Convention which this year is being held in Croatia, providing the opportunity to network with suppliers and members face-to face, A1 says it offers a full range of assistance.

Head of A1 Operations, Simon Salloway, concluded: “A1 is a group going places. We can offer a comfortable home to motor factors and retailers, whose owners wish to remain independent but require the security and support afforded by belonging to one of the UK’s oldest buying groups. We look forward to hearing from new potential members.”

Testimonials

“The biggest reason for joining A1 is that it’s owned by the members. Because it’s a non- profit making association, all profits are paid back to the members. We don’t pay into a general fund supporting any individuals, we support ourselves. Our membership overall is growing and we seem to be getting improved rebates year on year. We will continue to grow in the coming years and we will get stronger.” Alan Holt – Bumper to Bumper KMF, based in Kilgetty, who has been a member for 26 years.

“Comline has proudly supplied A1 Motor Stores and its members for many years. During this time we have built a strong and successful relationship with the group, which last year saw Comline rewarded with the group’s prestigious ‘Component Supplier of the Year’ award.

“The stand-out feature of A1 Motor Stores is undoubtedly its people; the team at head office is great to deal with and has a tremendous amount of aftermarket knowledge and experience, which benefits both members and suppliers alike.”
