Next up in our interview series with Shaftec is the company’s chief financial officer and general manager, Mitesh Thanki.
Q. Tell us about your day-to-day role at Shaftec?
Mitesh Thanki (MT): “My time is spent ensuring the team has the right resources in place to deliver its monthly, quarterly and yearly objectives. This includes the right people, equipment, systems and financing.
“Part of my time is spent working with the senior leadership team on longer term strategic goals, to ensure we maintain and improve our position in our market.”
Q. What do you enjoy most about your role and Shaftec as a whole?
MT: “Every day is different and every day you learn more about the business, the people that make Shaftec what it is and our customers and suppliers. In my role, I get to see and hear about all the achievements and challenges the team overcomes.
“We have a wealth of knowledge, skills and experience in the business, so no matter what business challenge we are faced with, we always seem to come up with great solutions.”
Q. During your time, what developments have improved Shaftec’s positioning as a company?
MT: “I started nearly two years ago at the start of the first COVID lockdown. The business went through a few operational changes during the challenges the whole world faced in 2020. As a result of these changes, challenges and experiences, the business is now more resilient and is better equipped to deal with the unexpected.
“We have strengthened our teams and partnerships, leading to a stronger supply chain for products and components. We maintained availability during a time of unsurpassed scarcity, to support our customers.”
Q. What makes Shaftec an appealing proposition for customers?
MT: “We are constantly working on improving, whether that be our cataloguing, the range of products we offer, ability to remanufacture and recover more parts from core, service levels or technical support.
“Going beyond for our customers is what my Shaftec colleagues do every day. We offer excellent service and advice with our extensive range of aftermarket products, delivered where and when our customers need them – because we know our customers have customers too!”
Q. What makes Shaftec an attractive place to work?
MT: “This is a hard one to answer as everyone is different; however, over the last few years, the management team have worked hard to improve the work life balance for all our colleagues, as well as implement clear training and development routes for those who want to learn and progress their careers.
“We have a simple goal for all our employees: we want to give them the best chance at being the best in their role in our industry – it’s a bit more then free tea and coffee!”
Q. If you could sum up Shaftec in one sentence, what would it be?
Mitesh Thanki: “Creating sustainable solutions with great levels of service backed by technical, knowledgeable, and skilled colleagues.”
