Motul additives add value and opportunity

Capitalising on its expertise to meet the demand for improved mechanical performance, Motul has developed a wide range of additive products for professionals. Andy Wait, Motul UK’s head of PCMO, says Motul’s Professional additive range offers effective solutions and revenue opportunities:

Modern engine fuel consumption is conditioned by the combustion quality of the fuel used. Also, combustion and friction of internal parts leads to wear, metal abrasion, and increased operating clearances.

The Motul additive range allows professionals to provide customers with efficient solutions to fulfil their desire for increased engine performance – covering engines and related parts, ranging from transmission to cooling system.

The Motul offer, however, is not simply about the quality and effectiveness of the products themselves: Motul sees its additives as something to enhance the service offer; therefore, it has developed additive injector systems, which are compatible with the Motul product range, and which provide you with opportunities to both generate potential customer interest in the range, and, of course, benefit from a further additional revenue stream.

Fuel additives

Engine fuel combustion is never perfect, due to residues from unburnt fuel molecules or fuel impurities. These create deposits on the valves, piston heads, rings, and injectors, or in the carburettor.

Injector or carburettor fouling increases the size of fuel drops dispersed in the chamber, resulting in poorer fuel combustion and increased consumption.

Such fouling gets on the valves and pistons, disturbing the movement of mechanical parts among themselves. Friction is then higher, especially between the piston rings and cylinder walls, and disturbs optimal engine operation.

Last, poor combustion in the engine also causes clogging in the exhaust after-treatment system. This leads to a sharp drop in its efficiency.

The Motul fuel additive range integrates detergent molecules, which decrease and even eliminate such fouling.

Motul additives

Petrol additives: Motul’s Fuel System Clean (above) removes contamination from the entire fuel system and cleans it, while binding moisture and condensed water. GDI Clean offers a thorough cleaning of valves, injector nozzles and the inlet area for direct injection gasoline engines. Valve & Injector Clean for non-direct injection petrol engines removes contamination and keeps injectors clean.

Diesel additives: Diesel System Clean removes contamination and binds moisture and condensed water throughout the whole system, while DPF Clean maintains the diesel particulate filter, when used regularly, and supports regeneration.

Oil additives

Engine fouling, due to incomplete fuel combustion in the engine, is not limited to the combustion chamber. It can also contaminate valve lifters and the rest of the cylinder. This fouling hinders the interaction of metallic parts and increases abrasion, causing abnormal wear, which can mean frequent oil changes, and even cause engine failure. This wear can also damage the oil system, causing leaks.

Motul’s oil additive range includes a choice of products to decrease and eliminate fouling, while also stopping leaks:

Engine Clean cleans by dissolving contamination and deposits in the oil system, while Engine Oil Stop Leak puts a stop to leaking engine oil and helps to regenerate engine gaskets, while keeping them soft and supple. Hydraulic Lifter Care prevents pressure loss and reduces worrying noises caused by friction.

Transmission and cooling system

Motul’s Automatic Transmission Clean removes contamination and deposits in automatic transmissions, while Radiator Clean eradicates deposits throughout the cooling system and Radiator Stop Leak is self-explanatory.

Service at the heart of everything

Motul sees its additives as something to enhance your customers’ service offering, and for this reason it has developed its 2 in 1 and 3 in 1 (above) injector systems.

These allow a workshop technician to apply two to three additives at one time. Once the machine is connected up to the relevant vehicle system, it is simply started and can then be left to run through the additive programmes automatically, leaving the technician free to focus concurrently on other tasks at hand.

Should you stock Motul products to sell into workshops, these machines are available; thereby, you would offer a complete additive and injector system – a potentially attractive revenue generating opportunity for both you and your customers.
