Large numbers of dogs were purchased as ‘pandemic puppies’, many to first-time owners. One important aspect that these, or indeed any, dog owners can’t afford to ignore is the need for travel safety – Saxon Brands, with Sakura’s newly-expanded pet range now available, expands:
In addition, the continued rising cost of living in the UK means that for many, the prospect of a staycation has, once again, become their main option for a getaway in 2022. As a result, pet travel is likely to be a hot topic this summer and owners will need to be prepared.
The Highway Code states that “when in a vehicle make sure dogs or other animals are suitably restrained, so they cannot distract you while you are driving or injure you, or themselves, if you stop quickly. A seat belt harness, pet carrier, dog cage or dog guard are ways of restraining animals in cars”.
Failing to do so could land the driver with a fine up to £5,000, if they’re found to be driving without due care and attention.
Sakura steps up
The new SS5491 seat belt travel strap is designed to clip into the driver’s existing seat belt buckle at one end and attaches to the dog’s existing harness at the other.
A fully adjustable strap allows the dog enough room to sit comfortably whilst preventing them from sudden or excessive movements likely to distract.
For pet owners who are constantly in and out of their car, or regularly drive somewhere to take their dog for a walk, the new SS5490 (pictured) is a two-in-one dog lead and seat belt strap that covers both pursuits.
Featuring the same harness and universal seat belt clips as the travel strap, once the pet leaves the vehicle the seat belt clip tucks tidily away into a Velcro-secured pouch, turning the strap into a fully adjustable dog lead, allowing safe travel on foot.
These two new leads join Sakura’s best-selling dog guard range, which comprise multiple products to suit all vehicles, all of which can all be fitted without the need for tools.
The SS5260 universal dog guard is fully adjustable to cover the full height and width of the vehicle and features four vertical bars to allow good visibility of the dog in the boot, whilst stopping them crossing over to the back seats.
The SS5259 mesh dog guard clips directly behind the rear headrests, is fully adjustable in width, and comes with three different fittings to ensure a snug fit in all vehicles. Meanwhile, the SS5453 SUV guard is shaped specifically with SUV interiors in mind and, once again, secures to the headrests and is fully adjustable in width.
