Autosupplies Group Managing Director, David Clarke, has spoken of the shock and fear he felt for his business on the day the first lockdown rules were announced to halt the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.
In an exclusive interview with Impression Director, Mark Field, in a new podcast “Putting the motive in Automotive”, David describes the announcement as a shock to the system. However, following more in-depth research he realised the group, comprising Autosupplies Chesterfield, Butlers Automotive and Leisureways of Rotherham could remain open.
David explained: “My initial reaction on 23 March is that my business would have to close and also my customers’ business would have to close. On top of that the most important thing running through my mind was that all my staff were possibly going to lose their jobs.”
He admits to receiving more than 100 calls from staff, customers and suppliers and speaks of the fear people had about coming into work. He also goes on to explain the tough decisions that have been made and how day-by-day, the business has recovered to embrace the new normal.
