SMP Europe rebrands as Intermotor Group
SMP Europe has announced that it will now operate under a new name, Intermotor Group, marking a significant and meaningful return to its heritage as one of the most recognised and respected names in the automotive aftermarket.
The decision follows a period of reflection for the company, now more than five decades into its journey as a leading manufacturer of engine management, emissions, fuelling and ignition components. Throughout those fifty years, one name has consistently remained central to its identity – Intermotor.
Originally the company’s founding brand, Intermotor became synonymous with reliable components, technical expertise and products that did exactly what technicians expected them to do. The name appeared on shelves, in catalogues and in workshops across the country – and remained deeply associated with the company’s engineering-led ethos.
Ross Toomey, Managing Director of Intermotor Group, commented: “Every business reaches a moment where it looks back and reconnects with what shaped it. For us, Intermotor has always been more than a brand – it has been part of our DNA.
“Bringing the name forward again isn’t a step backward; it’s a continuation of who we’ve always been. Intermotor represents trust, engineering excellence and the thousands of components we’ve produced that have kept vehicles moving for generations.”
The addition of “Group” reflects the scale and capability the business has developed over time, encompassing the Intermotor, Lemark, Lucas and Fuel Parts brands. All showcasing the company’s deep technical expertise and advanced in-house design, development and manufacturing process at its Centre of Excellence in Nottingham.
Despite the new name, customers and partners will see no changes to the company’s commitment to quality, service or innovation. Instead, the rebrand represents a strengthening of its values – a reaffirmation of the engineering detail, rigorous testing and product reliability and quality that have defined Intermotor for decades.
Toomey added: “In many ways, this isn’t really a change at all. It’s a return to the name that helped shape us and a promise that the standards behind it remain exactly what they’ve always been.”
