OSRAM provides training to West Lancashire students

Renowned lighting manufacturer, OSRAM, recently delivered their OSRAM Lighting Academy training session on automotive lighting to nearly 30 motor vehicle engineering students at West Lancashire College.
Students are a significant part of the future of the automotive aftermarket, therefore OSRAM is dedicated to assisting in their education. It’s for this reason that representatives from the business, in conjunction with Mike Smallbone from Aftermarket Business Solutions, recently conducted two training sessions for students at West Lancashire College.
This is the company’s final training session of the year, as OSRAM has conducted at multiple colleges throughout this year, including sessions at Warrington College, Leicester College and Swindon College.
Throughout the day, students learned about the aftermarket in general from Mike, as well as bulb technologies, business opportunities when it comes to up-selling and fitting bulbs and the importance of fitting premium quality products.
Marketing Director, Henry Bisson, who delivered the lectures on the day, said: “There is lots of complexity when it comes to automotive lighting including the different technologies and the future developments of it too. There are also profit opportunities to be made in bulbs, but we don’t see many workshops taking this opportunity, which is why we want to teach the younger people in the industry why they should be charging for bulb check services and how it benefits them, as well as their customers.
“We wanted to stress the importance of fitting premium quality and reputable components, as fitting a poor quality bulb may dazzle other drivers, fail prematurely and in some cases, be hazardous in the engine bay and cause damage to the headlight unit, so we want them to learn this information at the start of their career, and hopefully carry it through.
“We found the students to be enthusiastic about their future careers and responsive to what we were teaching them. We’re excited to see their progression and where they flourish in the industry.”
At the end of the session the ‘heads or tails’ quiz provided some additional involvement from the students with a chance to win some OSRAM branded goodies.
