Motor factors could be about to reap the rewards of Castrol’s new marketing campaigns, designed to encourage motorists to pay their workshop a visit. The company also reveals details of a new product, perhaps perfect for the shelves, in a bid to maintain efficiency of petrol and light diesel engines.
Delaying regular vehicle servicing can increase the likelihood of sludge accumulating in the engine, as this is not removed during a standard oil change. Sludge can potentially have fatal consequences for the engine, clogging vital oil passageways and reducing power, efficiency and overall durability.
Many motorists can go without noticing the build-up of sludge. The use of low-quality oil can contribute to the thickening and breaking down of engine oil. Even with normal patterns of use, a car engine’s oil can degrade at very high temperatures, and, over time, this can manifest as a build-up of sludge. To make matters worse, this process is exacerbated by frequent, shorter journeys, as well as poor quality fuel, late or missed oil changes, and by stop-and-go journeys.
A new pre-oil change treatment, Castrol Engine Shampoo, helps maintain the efficient operation of petrol and light diesel engines. It also reduces harmful sludge deposits by up to 85% in petrol engines, according to the company.
Since the pandemic, many technicians have noticed a decline in service visits and, therefore, a reduction in engine checks. Castrol recently conducted nationwide research amongst 1,000 UK car owners, to understand why there is still a drop.
Taking on the Oil Check Challenge
This autumn, Castrol launched its Oil Check Challenge marketing campaign, encouraging car owners to take their vehicle to a workshop, if they are unsure of how to assess the oil level of their car. The company has created a free marketing pack for workshops to help promote the campaign and to encourage customers and prospects to bring their car in for a check.
The marketing kit comprises promotional email templates, digital advertising banners for use on a workshop’s website and Facebook page, posters to put up in a reception area, leaflets that can be used at point of sale or mailed out and oil check reminder stickers that can be left in customers’ cars.
A new level of branded marketing support
In a bid to help independent workshops build trust with potential customers and drive new income streams, Castrol has also launched a new branded workshop programme, Castrol Auto Service.
The first Castrol Auto Service site is Arden Garages in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, a former longstanding franchised new car retail outlet, which is transitioning to an aftersales-focused business operating under the Castrol banner.
The Castrol Auto Service programme provides participating businesses with Castrol-branded signage, vehicle decals for courtesy cars, access to the full range of Castrol premium-quality lubricants, greases and fluids, in addition to product storage, dispensing solutions and comprehensive digital marketing support.
