Innovations from Laser Tools for the workshop

Laser Tools has been busy in the workshop, developing new tools and accessories, ready to tackle eclectic roles in a busy workshop environment – here are three that might be fast movers in the future.

Insulated mini hook and pick set

For intricate tasks that require dexterity, the new four-piece Mini Hook and Pick Set (part number 8888) could be a useful addition. This set supports both precision and safety. The tools are insulated to IEC60900 standards, making them safe for live circuits up to 1,000V AC and 1,500V DC.

Each tool in this set is 145mm long and made from stainless steel, providing durability and strength for various tasks, such as handling gaskets, O-rings, and dust covers. The comfortable PP+TPR soft grip handles are useful, while the insulated shaft – leaving only the pick-head exposed – boosts safety during high-voltage tasks. The set includes a small-angle hook, 90° hook, full hook, and straight pick, making it helpful for tricky, fiddly jobs in tight spaces.

Insulated click-type torque wrenches

Precision and safety are critical when working on high-voltage systems, and the latest 1/4″ drive click-type torque wrenches meet both demands. Fully insulated to IEC60900 standards, these wrenches are designed for live working up to 1,000V AC and 1,500V DC, making them ideal for electric and hybrid vehicle maintenance.

The 8879 torque wrench offers a torque range of 2-10Nm, with adjustments in 0.1Nm increments, while the 8880 covers a range of 5-25Nm with 0.25Nm increments. Both models feature dual-scale measurement, including pound force-inches (lbf-in). Adjustment is made simple by a pull-out collar at the base of the handle, ensuring precise settings for a variety of applications.

These torque wrenches are certified to ISO6789-1:2017 standards and are supplied with a certificate of calibration and conformance. Built to withstand rugged workshop conditions, they come in a sturdy blow-moulded case for added protection.

Battery and alternator tester

For quick, reliable diagnostics on 12V and 24V DC systems, this user-friendly battery and alternator tester (8873) features a clear LED display. It also provides instant feedback on battery and alternator health, helping determine whether further attention is needed.

Simple to use, this tester offers hands-free operation, thanks to a magnetic strip that allows it to be secured to the engine bay or bonnet while in use. With readings for alternator overcharging, battery status and system power output, users can quickly gauge the condition of these critical systems. The tester also comes with an 820mm test lead and crocodile clip for secure, flexible connections.
